Gracie's headstone lists her year of birth as 1886. Her sister, Emma Taylor Hopkins listed her birth date as 27 Aug 1887. It is most likely that the year on the headstone is correct so it is used here.

1910 United States Federal Census, John C. Taylor household, Rockcastle County, Kentucky 16: Gracie was living with her father & step-mother. She was listed as Gracie Taylor, daughter, age 23, single, born in Kentucky.

Newspaper Article from Mt. Vernon Signal in Mount Vernon, Rockcastle County, Kentucky on 24 August 1917: About 4:30, Friday afternoon, a very bad accident occured on Dixie Highway. Misses Lena, Gracie and Emma Taylor were on their way to the latter's home, coming from the funeral of Mrs. Hariett Burdette, when Claude Griffin's car scared the hourse, which they were driving, causing him to throw the girls under the buggy. The horse began to run and dragged the bugga s short distance. The buggy was torn to pieces but the girls were not seriously hurt. The horse was scratched up a little. 17

Taylor household, Rockcastle County, Kentucky 20: Gracie was listed in her father's household even though she was really living in Harlan County with her sister Emma Hopkins at the time. She was listed as Grace Taylor, daughter, age 54, born in Kentucky. She completed 5th grade.

1940 United States Federal Census, Elmer D. Hopkins household, Loyall, Harlan County, Kentucky 21: Gracie was living with her sister, Emma, and her family in 1940. Emma was working as the Postmaster at Loyall and Gracie helped keep house and took care of Emma's daughters. She was incorrectly listed as June Taylor, sister, age 9, born in Kentucky.

Obituary: Published in the Mt. Vernon Signal on 28 September 1961 in Mount Vernon, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. 13 MISS GRACE TAYLOR BURIED AT MT. VERNON: Miss Grace Taylor, 75, of Mount Vernon, died Sept 25 at the Rockcastle County Baptist Hospital.

Miss Taylor was born in Rockcastle County, the daughter of John and Sally Ramsey Taylor. She was a member of the Christian Church for 55 years.

She is survived by her step-mother, Mrs. Emma Taylor, Mount Vernon; three sisters: Mrs. Susie Krueger and Mrs. Holt Chesnut, both of Mount Vernon, and Mrs. Emma Hopkins of Loyall; two brothers: Hartford Taylor, Chicago, Ill. and William Taylor, Lawrence, Kansas, as well as an uncle, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the First Christian Church, Mount Vernon with the Rev. Gene Kearns officiating. She was buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
