  General Notes:

Many researchers list Elizabeth Ramsey as the 1st wife & Margaret Ramsey as the 2nd wife of James Francis Taylor. This appears to be based on the record of Wm Thomas' birth that lists his parents as James F. Taylor & Elizabeth Ramsey. Wm Thomas was born 11 Aug 1856. (Researchers who list Elizabeth state she died during/soon after the birth of Wm. Thomas and James F. remarried. They list his marriage to Margaret as 11 Oct 1856.) Margaret Ramsey & James F. Taylor were married 11 Oct 1855. (1855 was verified by both transcribed records in "Rockcastle County, Kentucky : state vital statistics and federal census mortality schedules, official records from the 1800's" by Jeanne Bonham and actual microfilm records. The marriage record for James & Margaret is included in a group that was certified by County Clerk on 7 Jul 1856 so they could not have been married in Oct 1856.) Therefore, Wm. Thomas was born 10 months after the marriage of Margaret & James and it appears he was named for both of his grandfathers as James' father was William Taylor and Margaret's father was Thomas Ramsey, Jr.

James' obituary only refers to one wife and states "by which union 11 children were born, 9 of whom survive - 6 sons, 3 daughters". (Wm. Thomas must be counted to come up with 11 children and 6 surviving sons.) The birth record for Josiah Taylor lists his mother's name as "Margaret E." Ramsey and the 1880 Census lists Margaret as "Margaret E.". Based on this information it seems that Margaret was Wm. Thomas' mother and James F. Taylor's only wife. Either "Elizabeth" listed as Wm. Thomas' mother was an error or Margaret's full name was Margaret Elizabeth/ Elizabeth Margaret.

  Burial Notes:

Margaret does not have a grave marker.

  More Information:

• 1840 United States Federal Census, Thomas Ramsey household, Rockcastle County, Kentucky: Margaret appears to be listed in her father's household as a female under 5. [Technically, Margaret should not have been listed in the 1840 census as it was to reflect the household as of 1 Jun 1840 and she was born in 15 Nov 1840. However, since the census due date covered 18 months from June 1840 it is likely she was listed by mistake.] 41
