Obituary: Published in the Mt. Vernon Signal (probably) aft. 3 January 1928 in Mount Vernon, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. 102 MILT TAYLOR DEAD; Milt Taylor, 54, died in the Pennington Infirmary at London last Tuesday at 12 noon from the effect of a lick in the head with an axe in the hands of Tom Winkler, a neighbor. From what we can learn, Mr. Taylor and Winkler met Monday at an old house near Mr. Taylor's home and an argument came up and Winkler hit him in the head with the axe. There was only one witness, a young man by the name of Sowder. Mr. Taylor lived from Monday morning about 9 til Tuesday at noon but never regained consciousness.

Mr. Taylor was born and reared about one mile north of Mount Vernon and had lived on or near where he was born all his life. He was a member of the Christian Church, having joined at Buckeye when about fourteen years old. He was a good, law abiding citizen and his untimely death was a shock to all. He leaves a wife who was Miss Janie Sowder, daughter of Richard Sowder, Sr., one son, Thomas and one daughter, Virgie, three brothers, John, Robert & App and two sisters, Mrs. Lou Fralick and Mrs. Nannie Harrison & a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. J. W. Riddle after which he was laid in the family burying ground nearby.

From newspaper obituary (paper not identified but probably Mount Vernon Signal).

Notes: On 28 Mar 1928, the Rockcastle County Grand Jury returned indictment #1421 for "wilful murder" against Tom Winkler. In the September, 1928 term of Circuit Court, WInkler was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Milt Taylor. He was sentenced to 21 years in the state penitentiary. 105
