1840 United States Federal Census, Lewis H. Bennett household, Troup County, Georgia 2407: John appears to be included in his father's household as a male age 5-10 years old.

1850 United States Federal Census, L. H. Bennett household, Troup County, Georgia 2406: John was living with his parents. He was listed as John Bennett, age 19, farmer, born in South Carolina.

1860 United States Federal Census, John T. Bennett household, State Line, Heard County, Georgia 2358: John, Martha and four of their children (Nancy, Justian, Thomas and Anna) were living together. John was listed as a hireling, age 30, born in Georgia.

Civil War, Confederate Military Service, 4 August 1862-12 June 1865: John enlisted in Company I, 41st Georgia Infantry of the Confederate Army on 4 Aug 1862 in Franklin [Heard County], Georgia. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 Nov 1863 and was captured on 16 Dec 1864. He was a prisoner of war at the Military Prison in Louisville, Kentucky and at Camp Chase, Ohio. He was released on 12 Jun 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

1870 United States Federal Census, J. T. Burnett [sic] household, Rock Mills, Randolph County, Alabama 2359: John, Martha and nine of their children (Nancy, Joe, Thomas, Sallie, Teresa, Mollie, Mattie, Jack and Robert) were listed as living in Rock Mills. Their surname is incorrectly listed as Burnett. John was listed as a farmer, age, 40, born in South Carolina. He owned real estate valued at $100 and personal property valued at $200. [Note: Daughter, Nancy, was actually married and living in Chambers County, Alabama with her husband and infant daughter in 1870.]

1880 United States Federal Census, John Benett household, Beat #5, Bursons, Randolph County, Alabama 2409: John, Martha and six of their children (Sallie, Mollie, Mattie, Thomas, Jack and Robert) were living together. John was listed as a farm laborer, age 50, born in Georgia.

1900 United States Federal Census, John T. Bennett household, Milltown, Chambers County, Alabama 2410: John, his daughter, Mollie, and her children, Lemmie, Jettie and Warren Hester were living together. John was listed as a farmer (renting property), age 59, born Feb 1831 in South Carolina, widowed. Milltown is located about 12 miles north of LaFayette on Hwy 77.

1910 United States Federal Census, Waren J. Hester household, Ryan Crossroads, Morgan County, Alabama 2411: John, his daughters, Mollie and Mattie and Mollie's children, Warren and Lem Hester were living together. He was listed as John T. Bennet, grandfather, age 79, widowed, born in South Carolina, working as a farm laborer.

Conflicting Death Information: 15 Mar 1910 as John's date of death listed on his headstone is probably inaccurate. He was listed in the 1910 census which was supposed to be the household situation on 15 Apr 1910.

Alabama began death certificates in 1908 but one can't be located for John.
