Obituary: Published in the Mt. Vernon Signal on 18 May 1950 in Mount Vernon, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. 860 OWENS: Mr. George W. Owens, born December 6, 1866, died May 12, 1950 at his home at Spiro, age 83 years, 5 months and 6 days.

He was a member of the Baptist Church at Freedom. A fine old gentleman and his death has caused much sorrow.

He was united in marriage to Miss Sibbie Hamm. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Lora Mink and Mrs. Ellen Owens of Quail and Mr. John Owens of Spiro. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Emma Taylor of Mount Vernon, one brother Mr. Dave Owens of Spiro, eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were conducted at the Freedom church Saturday afternoon, May 13 with Bro. Craig Holman officiating. Interment was in Freedom Cemetery. Owens Funeral Home was in charge of the burial.
