• 1870 United States Federal Census, J. T. Burnett [sic] household, Rock Mills, Randolph County, Alabama ²³⁵⁹: Mattie was living with her parents. She was listed as Martha Burnett, age 8, born in Georgia, twin to Mary.

• 1880 United States Federal Census, John Benett household, Beat #5, Bursons, Randolph County, Alabama ²⁴⁰⁹: Mattie was living with her parents. She was listed as Martha Benett, daughter, age 18, born in Georgia.

• 1900 United States Federal Census, Joseph Lanier household, Monroe County, Mississippi ¹¹⁵⁰: Mattie appears to have been living with her sister, Nancy Jane Lanier & her family in Muldon. She was listed as Mattie Bennett, sister-in-law, age 26, born Nov 1873 in Alabama, widow, mother of 2 living children.

Even though this information doesn't match up completely with Mattie, it is still most likely her. As far as can be determined, Mattie was never married and never had children. There were no children living with her in this census or any other. She was also about 10 years older than listed but there were descrepancies in the birth date and age in this census record for most others in the household. The main reasons this is believed to be Mattie is her name, relationship to Joseph Lanier and the fact that she was listed with either her parents or her twin sister, Mollie, in every other census except this one.

• 1910 United States Federal Census, Waren J. Hester household, Ryan Crossroads, Morgan County, Alabama ²⁴¹¹: Mattie was living with her nephew. She was listed as Martha Bennet, aunt, 46, single, born in Georgia, working as a farm laborer.

• 1920 United States Federal Census, Mary Hester household, Morgan County, Alabama ²⁷⁹⁸: Mattie was living with her sister. She was listed as Martha Bennett, sister, age 55, born in Georgia.

• 1 April 1930 United States Federal Census, Lim R. Hester household, Morgan County, Alabama ²⁷⁹⁹: Mattie was living with her nephew and her twin sister, Mary. She was listed as Mattie Bennett, aunt, age 66, single, born in Alabama.

• Grave Marker: Mollie Hester, Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery, Cullman County, Alabama. ²⁸⁰⁰ Date of death appears to be off by one day. According to Alabama Death Records, she died on Jan. 26th (not 27th).
